The death of Steve Roberts, brother of Greg was announced at the end of October 2006. He was 53. This was particularly untimely as Dreadzone were about to embark on an extensive UK tour to promote the album 'Live at Sunrise'. Steve's input to the Dreadzone sound and live experience was considerable, and the news of his death was a great shock to Dreadzone fans and admirers.
Steve Roberts was a well respected figure in the world of UK reggae music, touring with the late great Desmond Dekker, Prince Buster, The Pioneers, Bob Andy, Dawn Penn, Errol Dunkley, Alton Ellis and Dennis Alcapone as well as being a member of the original Screaming Target and working with diverse artists such as Gail Ann Dorsey. He was an integral part of the new Dreadzone set up, Steve put the years of experience and experimenting with musical theory in countless styles on guitar, bass and keyboards to good use. With a renewed sense of freedom he has became the groups virtual human sampler with banks of musical data stored waiting to be used. Dreadzones approach liberated and tapped into this source and with the energy generated in the studio and in the new live band all the best music keeps rising to the top as a constant flow of creativity. |
