Dreadzone Remixes on iTunes and TuneTribe

Remixes graphic

22 Remixes of Dreadzone tunes from the Virgin Records years are now available to download from iTunes and TuneTribe.

All the remixes have been previously released with the Dreadzone singles Zion Youth, Captain Dread, Little Britain, Life, Love and Unity, Earth Angel and Moving On.

Tracks 79p (album £9.48) on iTunes or 89p (album £8.99) on TuneTribe. Unfortunately, nine tracks are not individually downloadable on iTunes, and you must purchase the album to get them, which is annoying to say the least.

This appears to be a digital release only as there is no CD listed on the Virgin website.

However, some of the more interesting and obscure remixes such as Cypherbahn Dub Mix of Captain Dread are noticable by their absence.

Dreadzone were signed to Virgin Records between 1994 and 1998.

Leo Williams joins Carbon Silicon for live dates
The Carbon Silicon website has announced the Leo Williams has joined the live line-up of the Mick Jones fronted band. Leo was one of the founders of Big Audio Dynamite, Mick Jones' first band after leaving the Clash. Some live dates have posted and an album, said to have been recorded in January will shortly be available for free download. It is not known if Leo is featured on this album, but it is a fair bet that he is. This moonlighting on Leo's part will in no way affect his commitment to Dreadzone, and some live shows (featuring Leo) will be announced shortly..

Dreadzone working on new material
Greg Roberts is currently in Malaysia and it seems to be inspiring him musically. Greg says "Malaysia is a good example of how different cultures can co-exist on a pretty even level - two albums are taking shape, one dread and one that represents our recent fusion of musical bonds and approach."

"My laptop (Apple G4 platinum 17") is the absolute essential item here; it's my studio, communication centre, cinema and connection to the work zone. Logic 6 has been the resource where I cast the samples and sounds into shapes that will emerge as releases of emotion and expression."

Greg's full new years blog can be found on his myspace page (see links on right).

Dreadzone: A break and then back next year!
Before leaving for a well earned break, Greg Roberts had some reassuring words about the future of Dreadzone.

"Dreadzone we will be carrying on and will be using this time away to regain strength and find peace before coming back at some point next year to put ourselves again into the world of music and people. The goodness of Steve will live on in our hearts and our music; he left so much of it behind that it will come out in many ways."

He also hinted at some new music that is in progress...

"I will have my trusty Apple Mac whilst abroad so will be hoping to keep in touch as well as working on finishing a whole heap of music that we started."

MaShUp the Dread single delayed
The next Dreadzone single, MaShUp the Dreadz which was due for release on the 13th of November is now re-scheduled for release sometime in December. The death of Dreadzone Guitarist Steve Roberts has affected the band's recent plans. To add to the band's problems, the distributor for MaShUp has now gone bust. (Source: Doug on DZ forum)

Messages from Greg

Hi

I am afraid a rather sad message. Many may know already that tragically my
brother and Dreadzone guitarist Steve Roberts passed away two weeks ago
bringing grief and devastation to all in the Dreadzone family and beyond.

It is in light of this unfortunate event that the planned UK tour had to be
cancelled and will be rescheduled sometime in the future.
Many thanks to all those who sent messages of condolence, there has been a
wonderful outpouring of love and support.
Thanks also to the many people who had bought tickets for the shows. All of
us were looking forward to the tour.

As hard as it seems life goes on and I will be going away for a few months.
Before I go we will be in touch with some final mailouts of the year.

It is difficult to just impart this information in a message like this but
as I always keep people updated sooner or later I would have to include it.
Thanks for listening. I and all in the family appreciate your thoughts.
Please do not feel that you have to respond to this message.

Life love and unity
Greg
